Breast Reduction

Binghamton Breast Reduction with Dr. Mark Walker Breast reduction surgery is sought by many women in our practice to relieve the physical restrictions and painful strain on the neck, shoulders and back caused by excessively heavy breasts.  The strain can be so severe that it leads to chronic headaches, back and neck deformities, shoulder indentations, breathing problems, skin irritation and a variety of other medical problems.

Breast reduction surgery, technically called mammoplasty, is usually performed for physical relief rather than for cosmetic reasons.  The procedure involves the removal of excess breast tissue to reshape and lift the breasts.  The results are smaller, lighter, better-shaped breasts that are in better proportion with the rest of the body.  Breast reduction patients are among our happiest patients, literally having the weight lifted off of their chests, shoulders and back.

In 2001, Dr. Walker began using the Vertical Pedicle technique of breast reduction (changing from the inferior pedicle technique that he used for more than 17 years).  Like the previous technique, this newer procedure is designed to protect the blood and nerve supply to the nipple-areola area.  The added advantage is that the Vertical Pedicle reduction leaves a lollipop shaped scar which is less scarring than the former procedure.  It also creates a more conical and projecting breast without drains.

LESS SCAR * BETTER SHAPE * NO DRAINS
The choice of operation is obvious.

Because of the functional problems associated with extremely large breasts, your insurance will often cover the cost of this surgery.
